Gertrude A. Schulte, 82, died Saturday, May 8, 1999, in Waukon Good Samaritan Center, Waukon, after a ligering illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon. Burial: St. Mary's Hanover Catholic Cemetery, rural Waukon. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m today at Hansen Funeral Home, Waukon, where there will be a Scripture service at 3 p.m.

Survivors include her husband, Henry; five daughters, Doris Eglseder, Mavis Berns, Eileen Berns and Rita Irons, all of Waukon, and Ellie Collins of Waunakee, Wis., three sons, Gary Schulte, Rick Schulte and Wayne Schulte, all of Dorchester; and two sisters, Mary McCormick of Waukon and Margaret Grohall of LaCrosse, Wis,.

Gertrude Anastasia Schulte, age 82, of Waukon, Iowa died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon, Iowa. She was born February 22, 1917 to Michael and Ella (Byrnes) Burke on their farm in Hanover Township. Gertrude received her education at St. Patrick's High School. On February 4, 1937 she married Henry "Hank" Schulte at St. Mary's Hanover. They farmed in Hanover then moved to Waukon when they retired. Gertrude was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its Rosary Society in Waukon.

Gertrude was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Schulte who died in infancy, 4 sisters, Sister Mary Jude, Catherine Griffin, Rita Liddiard, and Monica Sweeney; and 3 brothers, James Burke, Michael Burke, and John Burke.

Gertrude is survived by her husband Hank, and 8 children, Doris (Bob) Eglseder, Mavis (Verdine) Berns, Eileen (Bernard) Berns, all of Waukon, Iowa, Gary (Janis) Schulte of Dorchester, Iowa, Ella "Ellie" (Bill) Collins of Waunakee, Wisconsin, Rick (Sue) Schulte of Dorchester, Iowa, Rita (Bob) Irons of Waukon, Iowa, and Wayne (Jean) Schulte of Dorchester, Iowa; 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mary McCormick of Waukon, Iowa and Margaret Grohall of LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 10 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. Father Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg, Father Henry Charipar, and Father Vincent Simon conducted the services. Burial was in St. Mary's Hanover Cemetery with Hanson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were her grandsons, Brad Berns, Brent Berns, Bryan Berns, Eric Schulte, Scott Irons, David Irons, Shawn Schulte, and Reggie Schulte. Honorary bearers were her granddaughters
