Shirley Ann Bulman, 60, died Monday, April 24, 1995, in Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wis, of complicatios of leukemia. Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Mounty Hope Presbyterian Church, rural Dorchester, by the Rev. Lawrence Odegard. Burial: church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at New Albin Funeral Chapel, where a Scripture service begins at 7 tonight.

Survivors include her husband, Robert; three sons, Douglas of Oelwein and Daniel and John, both of New Albin; three daughters, Jody Wiltgen of Winona, Minn., Jeanne Dobbs of Wasioja, Minn., and Lynne Burke of Burnsville, Minn., four brothers, Leland Weymiller of Spring Grove, Minn., Fritz Weymiller of Yuba City, Calif., Donald Weymiller of Lansing and Ronald Weymiller of New Albin; and five sisters, Evelyn Wild of Lansing, Helen Campbell and Lorna Vichlach, both of Waukon, Hope Griffin of Lake City, Minn., and Nancy Collins of Hales Corners Wis.

Also surviving are 19 grandchildren.

Shirley Bulman
Shirley Ann Weymiller Bulman was born Dec. 23, 1934 at the Hall Hospital in Waukon to Fred and Ethel Hope (Sadler) Weymiller. She was baptized and confirmed at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church and graduated from New Albin High School in 1953. Sept. 20, 1953 she married Robert Bulman at Mt. Hope Presbyterian. They lived in Olathe, KS from 1953-1957 while Bob was in the Air Force. After returning to the New Albin area, Shirley ran the household and cared for her six children. She was very supportive of all of them, attending all their extracurricular activities and encouraging them in whatever they did.
Shirley was a faithful and life-long member of Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as president of the UPW, until just recently and was a former treasurer for the congregation as well as helping with whatever needed doing. She was a former Girl Scout leader and often a volunteer for special projects at the schools where her children or grandchildren attended. Shirley was a loyal, generous and caring friend, always willing to help others and partake in all of the community events in the New Albin area. She enjoyed fishing, turkey hunting, snowmobiling and growing delicious sweet corn.
Her first love was family and she treasured her husband, children and grandchildren. It was rare that she missed an activity that any of them participated in and there were many very special family times at the lake on the farm that Bob lovingly named "Lake Flossy" after Shirley. Another special time was the trip they all took together to Disneyworld in 1988 for Christmas and New Year, a group of 30 children, spouses and grandchildren having the time of their lives. Shirley also traveled with Bob to Alaska in 1990 and earlier to Hawaii, California, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Atlanta and New Orleans for Mardi Gras. But she always looked forward to returning home to spend time with those dear to her.
In 1990 Shirley donated a kidney to her daughter Jody where a part of her continues to live on. In 1994 she received a bone marrow transplant gift from her sister Nancy.
The past two years have seen Shirley wage a difficult, but very valiant fight against cancer in the form of leukemia.
Even through this time she seemed to show more concern for others than for herself as she asked about how they were doing and advised them to take care. Although there were several rallies and many precious good days during this time, the ultimate result was that it was a fight she couldn't win. Shirley died peacefully Monday, April 24 at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI at the age of 60 Years, four months and one day.
She was preceded by her parents and a sister Betty Smerud.
She is survived by her husband Robert of New Albin; six children and their families: Douglas and Lee Ann Bulman of Oelwein and their children Chad, Holly, Brooke, April, Alissa and Drew; Daniel Bulman of New Albin and his children Emilie and Isaac; Jody and Steve Wiltgen of Winona, MN and their children Jacob, Megan and Samuel; Jeanne and David Dobbs of Wasioja, MN and their children Lucas, Matthew and Jennifer; John and Trish Bulman of New Albin and their children Sammantha and Ashley, and Lynne and John Burke of Burnsville, MN and their children Zachary, Coleton and Carson; brothers, Leland and wife Orpha Weymiller of Spring Grove, Fritz and wife Joy Weymiller of Yuba City, CA, Donald and wife Aileen Weymiller of Lansing, and Ronald and wife Lois Weymiller of New Albin, and sisters, Evelyn Wild of Lansing, Helen and husband John Campbell, and Lorna Vichlach of Waukon, Hope and husband Jack Griffin of Lake City, MN, and Nancy and husband Tom Collins of Hales Comers, WI, and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Hope Presbyterian Church in rural New Albin by the Rev. Lawrence Odegard with burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers are Todd and Gary Weymiller, Richard Wild, Jerry and Gregg Bulman, and Jared Collins.
Honorary casket bearers are Lois Weymiller, Joyce Breeser, Jane Carroll, Ris Sires, Sandy Dresselhaus, and Marge Bulman.
Martin Funeral Home of Waukon was in charge of arrangements
