Mr. Nicholas Kass, one of the oldest members of St. Joseph's Parish, passed away on the evening of July 30. The deceased was born 86 years ago in Luxemburg. He came to this country from his native land in the vigor of young manhood, to avail himself of the vast possibilities which this county afforded to one strong, energetic and willing to work.
He was a successful farmer and was the owner of much valuable land in Taylor Township, where he made his home for over 60 years. He was a devout and faithful member of St. Joseph's Church, where his generosity and kindness will long be remembered. His loss is keenly felt as was attested by the immense gathering of members of that parish and of other denominations at the last rites held Monday morning.
Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Father Nolan, with Father Neenan of Cherry Mound, as deacon, and Father Horsfield, of McGregor, as subdeacon. Four sons and two daughters survive, all of whom are at home except one daughter living in Minneapolis.
Interment was made in St. Joseph's cemetery, beside his wife, who preceded him to the grave twenty years ago.
