Waukon - John S. Ryan, a resident of this county eight [sic] years, died at his home in Waukon Sunday night.
Mr. Ryan was born in New York July 26, 1848, and when a child came with his parents to this county settling in Taylor township where he resided until after his marriage, which took place April 16, 1871, to Miss Catherine Manning, also a resident of that vicinity.
Following this they made their home on a farm in Jefferson township until fifteen years ago when the family moved to Waukon to reside.
Besides his widow he is survived by four children, seven preceding him in death. They are as follows: James V. at home, Edward and Frank of Jefferson township and William of Worthington, Minn. He also leaves three brothers, Roger and Will of Waukon and M.D. Ryan of Kearney, Neb., and two sisters, Mrs. Ella Hickey of Minneapolis and Mrs. Margaret Fitzgerald of Farmington, N.D.
Deceased was a devout member of St. Patrick's Church from where the funeral services were held Wednesday morning. Monsignor J.C. Stuart officiated at a Requiem Mass and preached an eloquent tribute to the deceased. Prayers at the graveside were offered by Rev. C.C. Drummy.
Burial was made in the family lot in Mount Olivet cemetery.
