In spite of the best medical aid and loving family care, Mrs. Wm. Ward passed to her eternal home on Wednesday, December 7, after a prolonged illness.

Born in Allamakee county, Waterloo township, in a real Christian home of pioneer parents, she inherited the qualities which made her a loving wife, kind mother, true friend and loyal citizen. No sacrifice was too great for her to make for her loved ones and her friends.

Mrs. Ward was a woman of unusual integrity. She loved her home and was happiest when engaged in her daily round of duties.

Her whole life was characterized by an abiding faith in God. She was a true and devout Catholic. During the long days of illness her greatest comfort came from the frequent visits of her kind pastor.

A solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated for the repose of her soul. Her nephew, Rev. J.C. McShane of Winona, Minn., was celebrant, assisted by his brother, Rev. Alan McShane of Winnebago, Minn., as sub-deacon and Rev. P. Reynolds, pastor, as deacon.

Father Reynolds delivered an eloquent sermon, pointing out the merits of this good Christian mother. As he said in his sermon her goodness or Catholicity could not be exaggerated or overestimated.

She leaves to mourn her loss her husband and five daughters, one son John dying in infancy. The daughters are Mrs. Chas. Farley, Union Prairie Twp.; Vera, Josephine, Cecily and Helen at home. Also two sisters and brothers, namely: Mrs. Henry McCullough, Union Prairie Twp.; Thos. Cavanaugh, the banker at Harpers Ferry, Iowa; Miss Nellie and Morgan Cavanaugh who live on the old homestead in Waterloo Twp.

~The Witness; Dubuque, IA; Monday, December 19, 1932

Note: Ann Cavanaugh Ward is buried in St. Mary's - Hanover cemetery. Her husband, William Henry Ward died June 22, 1947
