Raymond Dolph Mulholland, 93, New Albin, Iowa, died Friday, February 28, 2014 at Thornton Manor in Lansing, Iowa. He was born March 27, 1920, the eighth of eleven children to Leonard and Ariel (Inman) Mulholland in Lansing, Iowa. He attended school in Lansing and graduated from Lansing High School in May, 1938. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the fall of 1938.

Ray enlisted in the U S Army in November of 1942, went to Paratroop School and joined the 101st Airborne Division. Ray served in the European Theater during World War II as a forward artillery observer, participated in the Battle of the Bulge and earned numerous medals and ribbons for his service. Ray, along with six of his brothers and his brother-in-law, served their country during World War II. Ray worked for the Iowa State Conservation Commission at the Lansing and Highlandville, Iowa locations from 1950 to 1983 when he retired.

Ray married Hannah Breeser on December 27, 1956 at St. Peter’s Church in New Albin, Iowa. They made their home in Lansing until 1960 when they moved to New Albin. Hannah preceded him in death in November, 1997. He married Bonnie (Kubitz) Bakewell on February 28, 2002 at St. Peter’s Church in New Albin. He resided in New Albin until June of 2013 when he moved to Thornton Manor in Lansing.

He is survived by wife, Bonnie; son Dennis Mulholland (fiancé, Wendy Margenau); daughters, Patsy (Gerry) Gavin and Arlis (Richard) Myhre; grandchildren Mike (Mary) Mitchell, Cindy (Mike) Lacey, Matt Mitchell and Mark (Anna Fee) Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Michael Ray Mitchell, Vaughan and Hannah Lacey and Aran Fee-Mitchell; step-children, Roger (Toni) Bakewell, Gerald (Jeannie) Bakewell, Dan (Nyla) Bakewell and Joanne (Steve) Buxengard; sixteen step-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Barb Mulholland, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hannah; his brothers, Clifford ‘Tip’ (Bernadine) Mulholland, twins, Herbert and Leonard Jr. Mulholland, Delbert Mulholland, Everett ‘Fats‘ Mulholland, Harry (Helen) Mulholland, Walter Mulholland, John ‘Jack’ Mulholland , Phillip ‘Red‘(Dorothy) Mulholland and sister, Evelyn (Ed Sr.) Colsch.

Ray worked in and enjoyed the outdoors all of his life – from fishing and hunting when he was younger to watching the many eagles in the area later in his life. He was a loving husband, a wonderful and patient father, grandfather and a good friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. May he rest with God.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Albin Fire Department, VFW Post 5603 or St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday, March 7, 2014 from 4-8 pm at the New Albin Community Center, New Albin, Iowa and also one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral Services will be at 11 am on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. Peter’s Christian Community Church in New Albin, Iowa.

Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, New Albin, Iowa
