Alfred J. Fitschen, 89, of Lansing, died Saturday, Jan. 10, in a La Crosse, WI, nursing home.

He was born Jan. 26, 1886, in New Albin, to Nicholas and Anna (Heiller) Fitschen. He married Ruby Steele Nov. 14, 1904, in La Crosse. He was a former La Crosse resident and co-owner of Gateway Grocery Co. of La Crosse, until his retirement in 1960. He was sales manager and secretary of the grocery firm.

Survivors are his widow; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons and a daughter.

Private services were at 2 p.m. Monday in the Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, with Rev. Alvin W. Ebert officiating and burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
