Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Steele were held on June 2, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Waukon. Mrs. Steele passed away rather suddenly at the Laffan Nursing Home on May 20. The Rev. John B. McDonald officiated. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery, New Albin, with Rev. Kolfenbach officiating. Pall bearers were Mel peter Steele, David Steele, Joe Kroack, Myles Roach, Robert Stilwell, and Delbert Stone. Bakke and Hanson Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Louise Kroack was born at Freeburg, MN, on Dec. 11, 1887. She was married to Claude Steele who passed away many years ago, leaving her with a family of four children, all of whom survive. They are: Howard Steele, New Albin; Mrs. Dale (Marcella) Claffin, Idaho Falls, ID; Burnell Steele, Prairie du Chien, WI; and Ralph Steele, Waukon. There are 24 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

There are also two brothers and two sisters: Mrs. Lena Woods, Prairie du Chien; Miss Delilah Kroack, Viroqua, WI; John Kroack, New Albin; and Ed. J. Kroack, Waukon.
