On Thursday, Aug. 15, 1963, the sorrowful news passed around that Mrs. Theresa Bakewell passed away at St. Francis Hospital, La Crosse, WI, following a week's illness, Death was due to a heart ailment. She was well-known in our midst, having been born and reared in this community. She had many friends because of her kind, friendly disposition. She was an ardent member of the Catholic Church, and died fortified with the divine influence of its last and holy rights, and had no fear of death and meeting her Maker.

Theresa Morgan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Morgan, was born Aug. 28, 1976, in Iowa Township. Here she grew to womanhood and received her education in the rural school. She spent her entire life in this community.

On April 9, 1907, she was united in marriage to William Bakewell, residing on a farm near here, and in the year of 1936, they retired and moved to New Albin, since her home.

She was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kenneth Casey VFW Post, New Albin.

She leaves to mourn her passing three sons, Lawrence of New Albin, Joe of Waukon, and John of Clermont; one daughter, Mrs. D.J. (Anastacia) Quillin of La Crescent, MN; one brother, Francis Morgan of New Albin; three sisters, Mrs. Ella Kelly of Dubuque, Mrs. Margaret Donovan of Waukon, and Sister Claudia of La Crosse; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, Vincent; and one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Robertson.

Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Levenhagen officiating. Burial was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Casketbearers were Duane Bakewell, Ralph Bakewell, Kenneth Bakewell, Robert Bakewell, Donald Bakewell and Melvin Meyer, all grandsons.
