Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, from Grace United Methodist Church in New Albin, for Lysander Darling, 88, of New Albin, who died Monday, April 8, in Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon.

He was born Sept. 9, 1885, in Brownsville, MN, to Charles and Verona (Visger) Darling. He married Clara Myers on May 23, 1904, in Caledonia, MN.

She survives with five sons, Vernon, Melvin, Tom and Elton of New Albin, and Robert of Strawberry Point; and five daughters, Mrs. Elsie Williams and Mrs. Margaret Steel of Waukon, Mrs. Vivian Kilby of Charles City, Mrs. Virginia Verdon of DeSoto, WI, and Belva at home. Thirty-nine grandchildren; 83 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Violet Fivecoats of Minneapolis, MN, also survive. A son, Douglas, was killed in World War II.

Mr. Darling was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was employed as a commercial fisherman until his retirement.

Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, was in charge of arrangements.
