George V. Hammell, 92, of New Albin, died Friday, Jan. 25, 1985, in the Thornton Manor nursing home, Lansing.
He was born Aug. 6, 1892, in Iowa Township to Joseph and Pauline (Troendle) Hammell.
He married Elizabeth Wall on May 3, 1916. They farmed in Iowa Township. She died Jan. 26, 1957.
He then married Dora Drager who died in April 1963.
He then married Hilda (Huggett) Willgrubs who died in August 1981.
He served as a township trustee and was a member of the elections board and the creamery board.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin.
He is survived by three sons, George and Jim, both of New Albin, and Larry of Rochester, MN; five daughters, Alberta Troendle and Esther Walleser, both of Lansing, Sister Georgia of La Crosse, Pauline Blaskowski of Little Canada, MN, and Anna Collins of Stillwater, MN; 74 grandchildren; 109 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Evelyn Garner of Big Bend, WI, and Virginia Stevens of Cataract, WI; a stepson, Bill Willgrubs of Onalaska, WI; eight step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Albin. The Revs. Robert P. Rahe and Francis Perry will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Friends may call today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the New Albin Funeral Chapel. There will be a wake scripture service at 8 p.m.
The Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing, is in charge of arrangements.
