Waukon- Carolyn A. Thorsten, 67, died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004, in Veterans Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Survivors include four daughters, Gena Luchtenburg of Allison, Deborah Johnson of Greene, Phyllis Ali of Waukon and Nancy Day of Cedar Park, Texas; five sons, Daniel of Fayette and Bill, Bob, Bruce and Jason, all of Waukon; her mother, Rita Troendle of Lansing; three sisters, Suzanne Gilbertson of Waukon, Janice Keith of Sarasota, Fla., Elaine Smith of West Union; and two brothers, David Troendle of Mount Vernon and Dick Troendle of Cedar Rapids.

Carolyn Ann was born February 14, 1937, in Lansing the daughter of Carl and Rita (Schultz) Troendle. She attended Immaculate Conception elementary and high school in Lansing.

On October 1, 1955, Carolyn married James Herman Thorsten at Immaculate Conception Cathoic Church in Lansing. They farmed together in the rural Churchtown area until moving to Waukon in 1970.

Carolyn worked as a farmwife and homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and taking care of them while they were at home. Carolyn also enjoyed spending rime in the outdoors, going for walks, watching and feeding birds, and raising flowers.

Survivors include four daughters, Gena (Kendall) Luchtenburg of Allison, Iowa, Deborah (Bruce) Johnson of Greene, Iowa, Phyllis Ali of Waukon, and Nancy (Doug) Day of Cedar Park, Texas; five sons, Daniel of Fayette, and Bill, Bob (Dawn), Bruce, and Jason, all of Waukon; her mother, Rita Troendle of Lansing; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Suzanne (Greg) Gilbertson of Waukon, Janice (Robert) Keith of Sarasota, Fla., and Ellene Smith of West Union; and two brothers, David (Frieda) Troendle of Mt. Vernon and Dick (Janice) Troendle of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her father, her husband James, who died in 2003, and a daughter, Tina.
