Lorence J. Meyer, the son of Bertha Krambeer-Meyer and Henry Meyer, was born on March 16, 1903 in Post township, north of Postville. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1903, in St. Paul's Lutheran church of Postville by the late Rev. E. Bockelmann. He received his elementary education in the country school near his home and in the town school of Postville. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on September 18, 1918 in Postville.

He was united in marriage with Amanda Reinhardt on November 14, 1923. The young couple lived on farms east and south of Castalia and near Ossian for five years. Since that time they have lived in Castalia, where he had been engaged in the crushed lime business.

Mr. Meyer had been troubled with a liver ailment since last summer and his condition became worse so that he was forced to go to bed on last December 22.

Last Thursday evening he suffered a severe heart attack which was followed by several more within the next 36 hours. He departed from this life on January 8, at 5:45 a.m. at the Decorah hospital.

He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, his mother, Mrs. Charles Ulish of Monona; four sisters, Mrs. Hilda Martens of Postville, Mrs. Amy Harris of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Ruth Lenth of Luana and Mrs. Leona Bachtell of Berlin, Germany.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Ethel Meyer.
