Mrs. Jack A. Marenthus, nee Phoebe Brandt, the daughter of William F. Brandt and his wife, Ida Schultz Brandt, was born at Postville on March 16, 1899. She was baptized in St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Postville on July 2, 1899 and confirmed on August 26, 1927. She died at Independence, on December 15, 1962 at the age of 63 years, eight months and 29 days.

She was married to Morris Madorin of McGregor, on January 20, 1923. To this union was born one son.

She was married to Jack A. Marenthus on August 11, 1948. They made their home at Independence, since that date.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Arthur F. Brandt, who died in France in World War I, and for whom the local American Legion Post is named, Pat Brandt of Postville and Ray Brandt of Waukon.

She is survived by her husband; one son, Roland Madorin of Eureka, California; one brother, Melvin of San Jose, California; one sister, Mrs. H. A. Neff of West Union and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the Schutte Funeral Home on December 18, 1962 at 1:30, with the Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Postville, officiating. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
