Lansing- Milton Robert Sterner, 66, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 1997, in Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse, Wis., after a month-long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Our Savior Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Kim Thacker. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, with military rites. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home, Lansing.

Survivors include his son, Douglas (Nancy) Sterner of Rockford, Ill.; his daughter, Christi (Don) Brewster of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; and three grandchildren, Megan Mitchell and Jakob and Ryan Sterner.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.

Born June 9, 1930, in Anamosa, the son of Paul and Anna Sterner, he attended school in Springville, graduating in the class of 1947. He then attended Cornell College. Milton served in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. From 1953 to 1961, he was employed by Collins Radio, then worked for Lansing Company as a computer programmer and data processing manager from 1961 to 1964, when he retired. Milton married Ilene Rose Christiansen on Nov. 13, 1955, and they were blessed with two children. He was a very active member of his church and community and served various roles and positions in each organization of which he was a member.
