Waukon- Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon for Mrs. Andrew Bakkum, one of the oldest residents of Paint Creek township, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Gilbertson, Saturday from the infirmities of old age. Services were conducted by the Rev. A. P. Leas and burial was made in the adjoining cemetery. Those who supported the casket were Alex Drogset, Gilbert Paulson, Charles Kosbau, Eillert Bakkum, Egbert Bakkum, and Ernest Nordstrum, the latter of Chicago.

Mrs. Bakkum was born at Viola, Wis., Nov. 26, 1853, and when a child came to Allamakee county with her parents and settled in Paint Creek township. Her maiden name was Miss Agnethe Shager and about 55 years ago she married Andrew Bakkum, and during all these years she resided on the farm where she died. Mr. Bakkum died about seven years ago. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Solve Kolsrud, of Chicago; Mrs. Liuf Jacobson, Waukon, and Mrs. Carl Gilbertson, of Paint Creek. One son, Alfred, resides in Waukon, and one sister, Mrs. Francine Halvorsen, of Bandette, Wis.
