Duane William Kamp

Duane William Kamp, son of Edward and Lucy (Eberling) Kamp, was born April 21, 1922 at Postville, Iowa. He died Monday, Dec. 27, 1993 in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa. He was 71.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. He graduated from Postville High School in 1940. On Feb. 25, 1942 he married Eunice Kugel. To this union six children were born: Janice, Duane (Ed), James, Thomas, Daryl and Randy. On April 4, 1969, he married Dolores Seaton at Manchester, Iowa. She died in 1991. Duane married Catherine ("Kate") Bachtell on August 14, 1992, in Postville.

Duane taught in the rural schools from 1941 to 1965. He was employed by the Meadow Gold Dairy for approximately three years. Duane was a founding partner, along with Gary Soppe, in the Dubuqueland Overhead Door Company. Later, he established his own overhead door company in Luana. He retired in 1990.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dolores, who died September 25, 1991.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine ("Kate"), of Postville; one daughter, Janice Pearson and her husband, Ned, of Knoxville; five sons, Duane E. (Ed) Kamp and his wife, Wanda, of Cambridge, James W. Kamp of Chariton, Thomas D. Kamp and his wife, Judy, of Knoxville, Daryl D. Kamp and his wife, Diane, of Farley, Randy Kamp and his wife, DeLynn, of Osage; five step-daughters, Diana Torson, Mission, S. D., Francis Allsup and her husband, Dennis, Volga, Marilyn Olson and her husband Bob, Ogden, Utah, Linda Ortberg and her husband, Scott, Ft. Worth, Texas, Kristy Stapher and her husband Dwight, Volga; two step-sons, Keith Bachtell, Chicago, Stephen Bachtell, Mt. Prospect, Ill., and Charles Bachtell, Berwyn, Ill.; two sisters, Irene Buddenberg and her husband, Rodney, Des Moines, Mary Reierson and her husband Robert, Postville; one brother, Donald Kemp (sic), Issaquah, Wash; 14 grandchildren, Shawn Helle, Rusty, Troy and Brent Pearson, Cindy Paeth, Mike, Donnie and John Kamp, Sarah Kamp, Tracy Blankenship, Todd Kamp, Steve and Lisa Kamp, Savannah Kamp, 20 step-grandchildren; nine great grandchildren, Brittany and Tyler Pearson, Nicholas and Rachel Pearson, Morgan and Ned Helle, Ashley Paeth, Justin Kamp, Samantha Hollenbeck; 10 step great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Esther Eberling of Postville.

Casket bearers were Rusty Pearson, Mike Kamp, Todd Kamp, Troy Pearson, Donnie Kamp, Steve Kamp, Brent Pearson and John Kamp.
