Clarence Earl VanBrocklin, 83, of Hopkins, MN, formerly of the Lansing and New Albin areas, died Monday, November 9, 1998.

He was born in Lansing, the oldest of eight children, to Dwight and Bessie (Darnell) VanBrocklin. He was united in marriage to Edna Moore on November 22, 1937 in Lansing. The couple began their life together as farmers in the New Albina rea and later Clarence worked as a custodian of the church, school and cemetery at Immaculate Conception Parish in Lansing. In May of 1950, they moved to Hopkins, MN, where Clarence was employed by Minneapolis Moline as a forklift operator. They family moved to Glen Lake, MN, in 1965 where they lived until they retired in 1980. Clarence and Edna returned to New Albin and enjoyed their retirement among friends and relatives until Clarence became ill in 1997 and they returned to Hopkins, MN to be near their children.

Clarence enjoyed a life-long interest in music and dancing. He loved children, animals, and the outdoors. He had a keen sense of humor and a dedication to family and church where he served as a 4th Degree Knight in the Order of the Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, a daughter-in-law, and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; three sons, Clair and Linda VanBrocklin, Gordon VanBrocklin, and Gerald and Deb VanBrocklin; four daughters, Joan and Lane Wiggs, Jean and Rudy Larson, Mary and Roger Axel, and Aloce and Mike Heinecke; 19 grandchildren; three brothers, Ray, Ervin, and Robert; four sisters, Florence McKee, Ada Boltz, Phyllis Hamel, and Joyce Shogren; two step-brothers, Dwight and Paul; and other relatives and friends.

Services were held Thursday, November 12, 1998 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church in New Albin, Fr. Hank Charipar officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery in New Albin.

Burke-Thornburg Funeral Home in Lansing was in charge of arrangements.
