Walter H. Boltz, 86, of Waukon, died Sunday, April 3, 2005, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon with Rev. Lynn G. Groe officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home.

Walter Helmer Boltz was born May 29, 1918, in the Irish Hollow area of rural New Albin, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Louise (Meyer) Boltz. He was baptized at St. Peter’s Evangelical Church in New Albin and attended the Sand Cove, Hartley, and Clear Creek rural schools.

On April 18, 1941, he married Ada Beryl Van Brocklin in Caledonia, Minn. Walter served in the US Army during World War II. Following the service he returned to northeast Iowa where he worked as a farmer and did road construction for Brennen Brothers Construction. Walter then spent 30 years working for John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo. He has lived in Waukon since 1987 where he worked at North Iowa Sports Shop for several years.

Walter was a member of the VFW and UAW #838 of Waterloo. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and liked to visit with his friends and neighbors.

Survivors include five children, John “Jack” (Jan) Boltz of Lansing, Shirley Rasmusson of Jesup, Iowa, James (Linda) Boltz and David (Debbie) Boltz, both of Mobile, Ala., and Vicki (Randy) Williams of Sunflower, Ala.; ten grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a brother, Floyd (Connie) Boltz of Sheridan, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ada, who died in 2002; and two brothers, Elmer and Lester Boltz.

Honorary casketbearers are Dwight, Kara, Joshua, and Matthew Boltz, Scott and Brian Harper, Scott Rasmusson, LeRoy McCabe, Gene Shogren and Tom Leiran. Casketbearers are Edward Boltz, Audrey Peterson, Melody Smith, Bob Rotach, Mike Blocker, Greg Hagensick, Wayne Sawyer, and Don Angel.
