Rita Ann Imhoff, age 73, of New Albin died peacefully at her home Tuesday, May 8, 2001. Funeral services were held Friday, May 11 at St. Joseph's Church in New Albin, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Rita was born December 22, 1927 to Peter A. and Frances E. (Waters) Whalen in La Crosse, WI. She graduated high school in New Albin and then attended Clarke College in Dubuque. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught in the New Albin Consolidated Schools for several years.

Rita married Lawrence Imhoff in 1948 in New Albin, and was the mother of nine children. In November of 1999, she retired from Thornton Manor Care Center in Lansing, where she enjoyed nineteen years as a nursing assistant.

Rita is survived by four daughters, Angela (Steve) Taylor of Kasson, MN, Mary Ann (Scott) Maust of Monmouth, IL, Connie Sue Backus of Papillion, NE, and Michelle (Tim) Lapointe of Mason City; four sons, Don (Dorene) of La Crosse, WI, Jim (Kim) of Gilbert, AZ, Jake of New Albin, and Tom (Deb) of Janesville, WI; twenty-three grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers, Leo, Ray and Dale Whalen; and one sister, Mary Bechtel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Kenneth, brother Earl, and five infant brothers.

Casketbearers were Don Imhoff, Jim Imhoff, Jake Imhoff, Tom Imhoff, Tom Zeimet, and Millard "Butch" Vickery.

Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
