Aelred J. Delaney, 79, of New Albin, died Tues., Dec. 4, 2001, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, following a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Mon., Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial followed in the New Albin City Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Aelred Joseph Delaney was born Jan. 12, 1922, in rural Harpers Ferry, the son of John Joseph and Cecilia Ann (Conway) Delaney. He was baptized and confirmed at Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and attended rural Harpers Ferry area schools.

On Sept. 18, 1965, Aelred married Dorothea Welper at the Wexford Immaculate Conception Church in rural Harpers Ferry. Aelred spent his working life farming, first in the rural Harpers Ferry area, and after marriage, in the rural Dorchester area, raising cattle and hogs. He enjoyed the farm life, tending to his livestock, and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in New Albin for many years.

Aelred was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothea, of New Albin; six brothers, Les (Mary) Delaney of Waukon, John, Mark (Margie), Martin (Helen), and Pat (Eileen) Delaney, all of Harpers Ferry, and Joseph (Lora) Delaney of Choctaw, OK; two sisters, Myrtle Egan of Harpers Ferry and Delores (Bob) Mooney of Oswego, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

Casketbearers were his six brothers.
