Dorothy A. O'Hara Zeimet, age 78, of Lansing died Monday, May 20, 2002, at her home in Lansing.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2002 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Lansing.
Dorothy was born in Allamakee County January 5, 1924, to Joseph L. and Kathryn (Ryan) O'Hara.
She was married to Bernard "Barney" Zeimet July 11, 1943, at the Wexford Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, rural Lansing. He preceded her in death November 17, 1990.Dorothy worked in the Dietary Department of Thornton Manor for 19 years, retiring December 2, 1996. She also assisted with the Lansing Meal Site. Her hobbies were Bingo, embroidery, The Isle of Capri, baking, and the annual meals she prepared for her family and the deer hunters. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Dorothy was a fabulous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by seven children: Sharon (John) Costello of Lansing, Joe (Rita) Zeimet of Lodi, WI, Sally (Mark) Rethwisch of Lansing, Sue (Dave) Richards of New Albin, Jake (Dawn) Zeimet of Lansing, Sandy (Tom) Rethwisch of Lansing, and Jerry Zeimet (and special friend Kim Schmitz Vandee) of Dubuque; 15 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are five siblings: Robert O'Hara of Waukon, Jim (Mae) O'Hara of St. George, UT, Kathryn Scudella of Oak Lawn, IL, John (Jenny) O'Hara of Decorah, and Kenny (Shirley) O'Hara of Waukon.
In addition to her husband Barney, Dorothy was also preceded in death by two infant daughters, a brother, Don O'Hara, and a sister, Frances Schwartz.
Active casketbearers are John Costello, Jr., Ron Gaines, Matt Rethwisch, Tim Rethwisch, Tom Costello, Corey Richards, Brandon Rethwisch, and Justin Shepard.
Honorary casketbearers are Sue Meyer, Rena Morgan, Erica Reiser, Danielle Potter, Michelle Kishman, Kris Darling, and Jonel Rethwisch.
Thornburg Hanson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
