Postville Herald, Wed., 07 Feb. 1951.

Funeral services were held last Wednesday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 1:30 p.m. for Mrs. Johanna Ehde, nearly 99 years old, who passed away at the home of her son, Carl, near Waukon on January 27.

The rites were in charge of Rev. Ludwig. Burial was in Postville cemetery.

Christine Johanna Guenther Ehde, daughter of August Henry Guenther and Elizabeth Hunerfoot Guenther, was born January 28, 1852, at Wittenburg in Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany, and departed this life at the home of her son, Carl, near Waukon, on January 27, 1951, aged 98 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Mrs. Ehde was received into active membership in the Lutheran Church.

She was united in marriage with John W. T. Ehde on November 14, 1876, at Doemitz, in Germany. This union was blessed with seven children, six of whom survive the passing of their mother.

Mr. and Mrs. Ehde, together with their two oldest children, left Germany for America in 1884. The family was established in the Postville community. Then followed a period of time on the farm. In 1913 Mr. and Mrs. Ehde retired from the farm and returned to Postville, which continued as their home until the passing of Mr. Ehde on August 11, 1929.

After the death of Mr. Ehde Mrs. Ehde made her home with her children. Since 1937 she had made her home with her son Carl. Had Mrs. Ehde lived just a few more hours she would have been privileged to observe her 99th birthday. Mrs. Ehde was the oldest member of St. Paul's and the senior member of the Women of the Church organization of the congregation.

As the oldest member of the congregation at the time to her was accorded the honor of turning the first spade in the rebuilding of the church plant in 1941 as well as applying the match to the final papers of indebtedness.

Left to mourn her passing are six children : Mrs. Minnie Meyer, Postville, Mrs. Mary Stock, John Ehde, Carl Ehde, Mrs. Ella Miene, all of Waukon, and Mrs. Clara Hager, Milwaukee, Wis.; 34 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Ehde was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Anna Luebka; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; one brother, and one sister.
