Below is a newspaper article written on the occasion of Mrs. Raymond's 89th birthday in 1930 followed by her 1933 obituary. The 5-generation photo appeared with the 1930 article.

Birthday article:

Waukon, Ia., Dec. 12 - Mrs. Abigal Raymond of this city, who, on Dec. 9, was 89 years of age, is the head of the family here which boasts of five generations.

Those making up the five generations are Mrs. Abigal Raymond, her daughter, Mrs. James Raymond, her granddaughter, Mrs. August Brink, her great grandson, Albert Hagemeier, and her great-great-grandson, Harland Duane Hagemeier, the latter two residing in Decorah.

Mrs. Raymond was born Dec. 9, 1841, in Centerville, New York, her maiden name being Miss Abigal Crowell. Her parents were of English descent. When a young girl she came with her parents to Allamakee county and on Dec. 27, 1857, she was united in marriage to William R. Raymond, whose family was among the pioneer residents of this city, and who helped construct some of the first buildings in this city. They were the parents of six children, one son dying when young.

The children are, Mrs. James Raymond of this city, with whom Mrs. Raymond makes her home at present; Arthur Raymond, Mrs. Olive Henthorne and Mrs. Sylvia Painter, all of Mason City; and Mrs. Fanny Emmets of Artesian, S.D.

Mr. Raymond enlisted in the Civil war and remained throughout until the war was over. He died about eight years ago. Since that time Mrs. Raymond has made her home with her children at Mason City and with her daughter, Mrs. James Raymond of this city.

She has twenty-two grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Despite Mrs. Raymond's advanced age she is in fairly good health and when the weather is nice attends the Baptist church, of which she is a member. She does beautiful fancy work and has crocheted about twenty-five rugs in her spare time. Her memory is keen and she loves to relate stories of her earlier life.

Sunday, Nov. 23, marked the fifty-second wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. James Raymond, the latter, Mrs. Raymond's daughter. Both were born and reared in Allamakee county and have resided here practically all their lives. Mrs. Raymond was born Oct. 22, 1858 in Waukon.

They are the parents of nine children, four of whom are living, namely: Mrs. August Brink, Waukon; Ernest Raymond, Silvis, Ill.; Mrs. Bertha Arnold and Mrs. Nancy Roshek, both of Cheyenne, Wyoming, the latter and her family visiting here the past month. They have fifteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Mrs. August Brink is the mother of four children, Richard at home, Shirley and Albert Hagemeier, Decorah, and Mrs. Bernita Bomar, of Memphis, Tenn.

Obituary:

Nora Springs, Feb. 15 - Mrs. Abigail Crowell Raymond, 91, died early this morning at the home of her son, Arthur. She had been in poor health for some time and suffered from influenza.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon in the local Baptist church in charge of the Rev. A.A. Rideout of Charles City and the Rev. A.W. Caul of Mason City. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Mason City.

Mrs. Raymond was born in 1841 in Centerville, N.Y. While she was quite small, she went with her parents to Wisconsin and when 10 years of age came to Oscar township in Floyd county in a covered wagon. At the age of 16, she was married to William S. Raymond. The couple moved to Mason City where her husband, who was a Civil War veteran died.

Then Mrs. Raymond lived with her son, Arthur. He moved to Nora Springs a year ago and she also came here to make her home with him. Mrs. Raymond Mrs. Raymond was a member of the Baptist church and retained her membership in the Mason City Baptist church at the time of her death.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Clara Raymond of Waukon, Mrs. Olive Henthorn of Mason City, Mrs. Fannie Emmett of Artesia, S. Dak., and Mrs. Sylvia Painter of Mason City; one son, Arthur of Nora Springs, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. A son preceded her in death.
