Waukon- Bernard J. Schulte, 73, a lifelong resident of Allamakee county, died Sunday of a heart attack at his home in Waukon.
Schulte was born Nov. 21, 1877, in Waterloo township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schulte Sr. He married the former Mary Roerhohl May 28, 1907, and the couple farmed in Waterloo township until 1948, when Waukon became their home.
He is survived by his wife; seven daughters, Mrs. Veronica Bakewell, Mrs. Francis Hammel and Mrs. Joseph Bakewell, all of Waukon, Mrs. John Deviak, Mrs. Tony Alberti and Mrs. Robert Thompson, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Lawrence Klemp, Berkley, Mich.; a son, John C. Schulte, of near Dorchester; three brothers, Henry T. Schulte and John, Dorchester, and Herman, Watertown, S.D.; three sisters, Mrs. Benjamin Roerkohl, Caledonia, Minn., Mrs. Thomas Conroy, Le Sueur, Minn., and Mrs. Joseph Teff, Foley, Minn.; and 24 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic church and burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Dorchester.
