May's Prairie Farmer Dies Suddenly At Work

by Mrs. K. Feuerhelm
Waukon paper

Lansing (Special to The Democrat)--Rural and city folks were shocked on Monday afternoon to learn of the sudden death of Tresco Dee while at work in the fields at his home on May's Prairie. Assisted by his hired man, Henry Ingles, he hitched a colt with older horses and went to the field back of the rock church after dinner. The team was hitched to a disc, Tresco driving from the seat and the hired man leading the colt. They had made two rounds of the fields when upon turning to look back Ingles saw Tresco fall from the seat. He immediatedly stopped the horses and went to his assistance. As he fell his trouser leg caught in the hub of the wheel. This Ingles loosed and laid him down. He states that Tresco was still breathing when, after tying the horses to the fence, he went to call Mrs. Dee. She immediatedly called Dr. A. R. Fredrickson and drove the car to the field, remaing with the body until the doctor arrived. Deeming it best, the coroner was sent for, although it was certain death had been due to a heart attack.

Tresco Erastus, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dee was born near Lansing August 30, 1897. He attended the rural schools and devoted his entire life to farming. He was married to Myrta Worm November 8, 1935. His death was the fourth in the family from heart failure in five years. A member of the Evangelical Church, he was an acting steward at the time of his death, and had served in various offices of the church.

Surviving are his wife, a sister, Mrs. Harry Bakewell of Kasson, Minn., three brothers, Clinton of Waukon, Harry and Leonard of May's Prairie.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical church conducted by the Rev. E.R. Walters of Luverne and Rev. De.Witt Stauffer, local Pastor, with burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
