Chantel M. Snitker, 17, of Waukon, died Saturday November 6, 2004, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a car-pedestrian accident. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider and Rev. Msgr. Ed Lechtenberg officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Waukon. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home in Waukon where there will be a 3 p.m. scripture service.

Chantel Marie Snitker was born May 18, 1987, in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Jon and Nancy (Lydon) Snitker. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Chantel attended St. Patrick's School through the fourth grade, Waukon East Elementary and Junior High School, and was currently a senior at Waukon Senior High School. Through her junior high years she participated in basketball and track but in high school she concentrated and excelled in volleyball as a varsity team member, and softball as a starting pitcher. Chantel spent countless hours practicing her pitching in the off season with her father and other family members, and was rewarded with a selection to the Iowa-Wisconsin All-Star team and their playing trip to Hawaii this past summer. Chantel also excelled in the classroom and led her class in academic ranking. She was an officer in the National Honor Society, secretary of the FBLA, a member of Key Club and Dollars for Scholars, and volunteered with the first grade kids at West Elementary, in addition to being an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. This past summer she worked at the Waukon Aquatic Center.

Chantel enjoyed watching her brothers and sister participate in their sporting events. She also enjoyed baby-sitting, cutting wood, camping, listening to music, and most of all spending time with family and friends. Her caring attitude and willingness to help people had a very positive effect on a tremendous number of people. She was one of the sweetest people you could ever meet.

Survivors include her parents, Jon and Nancy of Waukon; two brothers, Cody and Blaine, and a sister, Daneshia, all at home; her grandparents, Thomas and Jean Lydon and DuWayne and Laurayne Snitker, and great-grandparents, Dorothy Slifka and Herb Bruns, all of Waukon; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Honorary casket bearers were the varsity softball and volleyball players and coaches from Waukon Senior High School, and the High School Choir sang at the services. Casket bearers were Matt, Nick, and Tyson Farley, Zach and Seth Schaller, Daniel Snitker, Nick Tilleraas, and Tade and Tom Willger.
