Lansing, Ia., Jan. 15 - The death of Mrs. Helen Withrow, a former resident of Lansing and widow of Captain Thomas Withrow, occurred in La Crosse on Tuesday, following a long illness.
Mrs. Withrow was born in new York, coming to Sac City, Ia., with her parents when a child. There she received her education and later taught in the public schools of Carroll and Odebolt, Ia.
In 1869 at Sac City she was married to Thomas Withrow, a veteran of the Civil war, the new home being made on a farm in that vicinity, later coming to Lansing where they resided for eleven years, then moved to La Crosse which had since been her home.
She is survived by two sons, Attorney Frank Withrow of La Crosse, and Congressman Gardner Withrow, also of La Crosse; two sisters, Mrs. Kate Snell of Franklin Park, Ill., and Mrs. Mae Stouffer of Sac City, Ia.
Mrs. Withrow was a charter member and first president of the McKinley Relief corps, a member of the Sons of Union Veterans' auxiliary, American Legion auxiliary and Service Star Legion.
The Rev. H.R Kinley, pastor of the Methodist church, had charge of the funeral services which were held on Friday morning in La Crosse, after which the body was brought here for burial in Oak Hill cemetery.
Casket bearers were Julius Boeckh, Otto Ruprecht, Herman Haas, Mortiz Kerndt, Rufus Carroll and John Dunlevy.
