Eleanor M. Curtin, 79, of Waukon, died Monday, August 25, 2003, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 28 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, with Fr. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial was in St. John the Baptist-West Ridge Cemetery in rural Waukon. Martin Funeral Home in Waukon was in charge of arrangements. Eleanor Mary Casey Curtin was born July 26, 1924, in Bluffton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Rose (Malone) Casey. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Bluffton, attended area rural schools, and graduated from Decorah High School in 1942. On June 1, 1943, she married Joseph Patrick Curtin at St. Bridget's Catholic Church. They moved to the West Ridge area north of Waukon for a time, and then into Waukon where she has lived ever since. Eleanor was a homemaker, but also had a number of jobs during her working life. She clerked and did secretarial work for veterinarian Dr. E.E. Linn, Sherman Hill's Sale Barn, Northeast Iowa Sales Barn for Ozzie Quandahl and Curt Nordheim, and IPLA Sales Barn. In more recent years she operated a gift shop in Waukon, along with a business called "Balloons To Go", and organized and coordinated bus trips to midwestern casinos. She was also a long-time Avon representative. Eleanor enjoyed music and dancing. She loved to play cards and was a member of several card clubs during her life. She also looked forward to entertaining, visiting, and spending time with her many friends and family whenever she got the chance. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Kelly Curtin of Marion, Iowa; three sons, Patrick (Kate) Curtin, Dennis (Audrey) Curtin, and Reggie (Cindy) Curtin, all of Waukon; former son-in-law Rodney Kelly of Mt. Vernon; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna (Marvin) Hovden of Decorah; two sisters-in-law, Kay Casey of Mason City and Anna Mae Curtin of Waukon; and two brothers-in-law, James (Wilma) Curtin of Maquoketa and Walter (Donna) Curtin of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joe; a brother, Donald Casey; and a brother-in-law, Robert Curtin.
Casketbearers were her grandsons, Chad Kelly and Todd, Travis, Trampes, Jason, Joey, Zeb, Shay, and Austin Curtin. Honorary casketbearers were her granddaughters, Tina Parizek, Tammy Troendle, Jody Martin, Tanya Rogers, Crystal Pelley, Amber Kelly, Shannon Mayer, Rachel and DeKoté Curtin, and Stacey Hamm.
