Our beloved Donald "Don" Gene Hangartner, age 56, of Loveland, Colo., went to be with our Lord early Tuesday, September 16, 2003, after a lengthy battle with Melanoma. He passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service and celebration of life were held Saturday, September 20 at Zion Lutheran Church in Loveland, with Pastor Lloyd Lorensen officiating. A memorial service will also be held this Saturday, September 27, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana. Pastor Christopher Staley will officiate and a fellowship will follow. Don's cremated remains will be buried with his father in St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery. Don was born February 2, 1947, in Postville, to Lynn Michael and Margaret Elizabeth (Krambeer) Hangartner. He joined the Navy and proudly served in Viet Nam. Don and Susan Ann Halverson were married May 17, 1970, in Luana, and he worked at Wilson's in Cedar Rapids. After moving to Loveland, he worked in sales, which he took great pride and joy in. It was a job that allowed him to travel and meet many people, both of which were his passions. All of his short life, Don had a smile and sense of humor that would light up a room and a heart and soul that he generously shared with everyone. He is survived by his beloved wife, Susan, and the mother he held so dear, Margaret Hangartner of Postville. Don will be sorely missed by the children he loved so: daughter Heather (fiance Greg Hampton) of West Des Moines, and son Ryan of Loveland. Also surviving Don are his two loving sisters, Lorna (Ron) Wentz of Menomonee Falls, Wis., Norma (Lyle) Kneeskern of Castalia, and his loving twin brother Ron (Julie) Hangartner of Swisher. Don was loved by many nieces and nephews, along with sisters-and brothers-in-law who will all miss having him in their lives. Don enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He always maintained a positive attitude and his nature was always upbeat and fun loving. Don was preceded in death by his father, Lynn Michael Hangartner.
