M.S. Barron, Fur Rancher, Dies at 74

Mark S. "Matt" Barron, 74, Route 4, president of the North Iowa and Southern Minnesota Fur Breeders Association, died early Friday in a Mason City hospital. He had lived in Mason City about 48 years.

Mr. Barron was born Aug. 9, 1878, at Waukon; the son of John and Catherine (Mathews) Barron. He was married to Anna Spitker June 20, 1905, in Mason City. They had made their home here since that time.

A bricklayer by trade, he worked until 1943 at his trade, and since then he had devoted his time to the fur business, which he conducted at his home.

He was a member of Bricklayers Local 21, the Spanish American War Veterans, the VFW, the Odd Fellows Lodge 224, and the Mason City Kennel Club and North Iowa and Southern Minnesota Fur Breeders Association, of which he had been president 12 years.

Surviving are his wife, Anna, Mason City; son, Richard E. Barron, Mason City; sister Loretta Boyd, Clear Lake; and two brothers, Stephen Barron, Mason City, and Raphel H. Barron, Arnolds Park. He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.

The McAuley and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, which are incomplete.
