Death of John Kenna Sunday Night at Dubuque
It was with sorrow that the many friends of John Kenna learned of his death which occurred at midnight Sunday night, at the home of his sister, Mrs. E. C. Daly at Dubuque, from a complication of diseases. He had been in ill health for several years, but the past six months had grown steadily worse and had been cared for at the home of his sister.
Mr. Kenna was born near Lycurgus in January, 1866, and was in his 66th year. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick Kenna, pioneer residents of that vicinity. As a young man he was engaged in farming and later clerked for a number of years in M. J. Buckley’s general store here at Waukon. For several years past he had been in the employ of the Northern Iowa Produce Co., as the capable assistant of the late Wm. Clark. After the death of the latter he assumed the management of the business until ill health compelled him to resign.
He possessed a kind and quiet disposition and was one, who had labored long and hard, complained little, if any at all, and those who knew him respected his splendid qualities.
He is survived by an only sister, Mrs. Daly of Dubuque. Mrs. W. H. Riley, Miss Eleanor Regan, and Charles Regan, Sr., this city, and Mrs. Julia Whalen, French Creek township, are cousins of the deceased.
The remains arrived here Tuesday, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Daly, and were taken to the Charles Regan, Jr., home. Funeral services were held this morning at St. Patrick’s Church, with burial in the family lot in the cemetery at Lycurgus.

~Notes: John Kenna’s sister, Mrs. E. C. Daly/Daily (Edmond Cornelius) was Margaret Kenna Daily. John and Margaret had an unmarried sister Mary Kenna who died 27 October, 1919. (Edmond and Margaret Kenna Daily had no children.) Mrs. W. H. Riley was Mary Ellen Cusick, daughter of Margaret Kenna Cusick and James Cusick, Margaret Kenna being, most likely, the sister of Patrick Kenna, John’s father. Eleanor Regan, Charles Regan, Sr., Mary Regan Holmes, and Julia Regan Whalen were the children of Daniel and Mary Devine Regan. Mary Kenna Regan and Daniel Regan may have been siblings. Mary Kenna Regan died between 1905 and 1910. Her obituary may possibly clarify her relationship to Dan Regan. Margaret Regan Daily was housekeeper for Fr. Stephen Cornelius Regan, brother to the above listed Regan cousins, in the 1925 Iowa Census (Deer Creek, Iowa).
