Rites Held For Fred Stopperan
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. from the Schutte Funeral Home to St. Paul's Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday for Fred H. Stopperan, 75, who passed away at his farm home northwest of Postville Saturday morning.
The rites were in charge of Rev. Charles E. Witt, pastor of St. Paul's. Burial was in Postville cemetery.
Fred Henry Stopperan, son of Carl Stopperan and Elizabeth Schroeder, was born in Clayton county on January 27, 1878 and died on August 22, 1953 at 10:45 a.m. at his farm home, northwest of Postville, aged 75 years, six months and 26 days. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed on March 20, 1893, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville.
He was united in marriage to Lena Brockmeyer on March 17, 1910. To this union was born one son, Eldo, who resides at home.
He lived in Postville for two years and then bought a farm northwest of Postville on which he lived for 42 years.
He is survived by his widow and one son, Eldo; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bareis of Castalia, Mrs. Anna Luebka of Postville, and Mrs. Henry Bareis of Cresco; also nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Charles Meyer, and three brothers, William, Carl and John Stopperan.
