Obituary for Mrs. John Reynolds from the Waukon Republican and Standard Newspaper April 28, 1926

Dena Goeke was born in Detmold, Germany Nov. 1, 1834 and passed to her reward April 22, 1926, at the age of ninety-one years and five months.

When she was fourteen years old her parents came to America and settled in Wisconsin. She was married to John Reynolds August 25, 1852, at Two Rivers, Wisconsin and lived on a farm near Manitowoc. There in the wilderness she shared the hardships of pioneer life, making a home when there were few white settlers in this western country.

In 1884 they came to Waukon, where she resided until her death. Since the death of her husband five years ago, Mrs. Reynolds has made her home most of the time with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Goeke, who gave her most patient care.

Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds were both faithful members of the Methodist church, having brought their letters when they came from Wisconsin. They were also deeply interested members of the G.A.R. and Relief Corps: Mr. Reynolds having served through the Civil War.

During the last few years of her life Mrs. Reynolds has been almost totally blind, and has been confined to the house by ill health. Death came to her as a sweet release, and was but the opening of the door into that larger life where none ne'er grow old and the eye ne'er grows dim.
