Obituary from the Waukon Republican March 23, 1904

Death of Mrs. H. H. Ludeking

The community was startled Monday morning by the news of the death of Mrs. Henry H. Ludeking at the home of her brother-in-law August Pieper in Ludlow township.

Mrs. Ludeking with her 4 hear old son had been visiting with Mr. Pieper's family since the early part of last week in hopes that a short time in the country might improve the impaired condition of her health. Sunday she was depressed in spirits and not as well as usual, but not to such an extent as to alarm the family. After supper she asked to assist her sister, Mrs. Peiper, in doing up the evening work and while she was so engaged Mrs. Pieper and her husband left the house for a short time to look after matters requiring attention outside. Returning to the house for something a little later, Mr. Pieper was horrified to find Mrs. Ludeking unconscious near a fence where she had fallen.

Two physicians were immediately summoned from town but in spite of all that could be done she passed away Monday morning at 4 o'clock.

Martha Bauerkamper Ludeking was born in Ludlow township in October 1871, where she grew to womanhood and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. February 18th , 1899 she was united in marriage to henry H. Ludeking of this city. Prior to her marriage her health began to fail from which death resulted.

She is survived by her husband and four year old son, a mother, five sisters and three brothers.

The funeral services take place from the home tomorrow afternoon at 1:30, Rev. Ellicker and Rev. Buettell officiating.
