Postville, Ia. - Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Humphrey, of Postville, have received word that their son, Lieut. Howard C. Humphrey, previously reported as missing, was killed in action over Germany on March 23.
His brother, Major Donald Humphrey, was the pilot of the first Superfortress B-29 to blast installations on the mainland of Japan.
Lieut. Humphrey was born at Monona, Ia., on Aug. 21, 1920, and came with his parents to Postville in 1923. He attended Loras College in Dubuque two years and was a graduate of the College of Commerce of the State University of Iowa. He was an accountant for the General Electric Company in Bridgeport, Conn., when he enlisted in the Air Corps. He went overseas in February, 1944.
Surviving are his parents; a sister, Mary Hope, a student at the University of Michigan, and his brother, Major Humphrey.
