Luana, Ia. - Funeral services were held for Mrs. William Miene, Sr., 79, Wednesday afternoon in St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Postville. She passed away Monday morning at her farm home, three miles west of Luana.
On May 22, 1865, Mrs. Miene was born in Rodewalt, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dierking. In Germany on May 19, 1886, she was married to William Miene, SR.
Mrs. Miene with her husband and four children came to the United States from Germany in 1903. They arrived in McGregor in May, 1903, and settled at National. Later they moved to a farm near Castalia, then to several farms near Postville, and finally to the farm near Luana that became their permanent home.
Mrs. Miene is survived by six children, Henry Miene, of Waukon, and William, Fred, Meta, Velma, and Mrs. John Walch, all of Luana, and 16 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and two children.
