Otilie Hedwig Bettin, daughter of Leopold and Ernestine Bettin, was born Dec. 17, 1874 in Bromberg, Germany. Here she was baptized in early infancy. In the year 1880 she came to America with her parents and they settled in Allamakee County, Iowa, which, with the exception of a short sojourn in Michigan, served as her home. On April 8, 1888 she received the Rite of Conformation in St. John's Church at Wheatland and has since been a faithful member.
On October 10, 1893, she was united in marriage with August F. Weymiller. The ceremony was performed by Rev. K. Koch. Mr. and Mrs. Weymiller quietly observed their 50th wedding anniversary in the year 1943. Six children were born to this union. One daughter, Ella Wilhelmina, preceded her mother in death in 1899.
Mrs. Weymiller was devoted to her home, and she was a source of inspiration to those with whom she came in touch and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Besides her family and home her church was a comfort and she always attended while her health permitted.
She was ailing for some time and was taken to a hospital in La Crosse, Wis. Here she passed away Friday afternoon, reaching an age of 70 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Her death is mourned by her husband, three sons, Carl, Pray, Mont.; Ed and Emil, New Albin, Iowa; two daughters, Emma, New Albin, and Mrs. Louise Westervelt, Webster City, Iowa. Besides these she leaves to mourn her death five grandchildren, Robert Blomquist and Helen Weymiller, La Crosse, Wis.; Rose Mae and John Weymiller, New Albin, and Calvin E. Weymiller of the U.S. Marines and one great-grandchild, David Blomquist. Also one brother, Otto Bettin, New Albin.
The funeral was held from her home on Sunday, April 8th, the Rev. P.H. Franzmeier officiating. Mr. Albert Fruechte sang two hymns, "Abide With Me" and "Rock of Ages." Interment was made in the New Albin Cemetery, Pall bearers were Carver Gantenbein, John Rouster, Leo Colsch, Henry Zarwell, Ed. Meyer and Paul Meyer.
Out of town relatives attending the funeral services were her son Carl and daughter Louise.
