TRAGIC DEATH OF JIMMY CLANCY

As briefly mentioned in last week's Journal, Jimmy Clancy passed away Monday morning at a San Francisco, Calif., hospital, the result of injuries received the Friday night previous when slugged on the head with a gas pipe in an attempted robbery. He had just finished a long days work at the General Engineering Drydock Company where he had been employed the past couple of years. It is not known whether much or any money was taken in the brutal assault as a considerable sum was found on his person and a large check still uncashed. He had been in California more than a couple of years and lived with his brother Donald and wife, who accompanied the remains here, arriving late Sunday morning via Dubuque.

James Clancy was born in Lansing, Iowa, Oct. 9, 1909, a son of Mr. and Mrs. James Clancy, whose father preceded him in death only several months ago on Sept. 16th. He attended parochial school and was married to Miss Gladys Love who with their son Ronnie and daughter Mary Anne survive. Other immediate survivors include his mother, Mrs. James Clancy Sr., and his sisters, Lavonne, Edna, Alice and Mrs. George Baker, of Lansing, Donald of San Fransisco, and George of Welcoma, Oregon, the latter unable to come home for the service. A sister Rose, Mrs. Hugh Walker of Dubuque, preceded him in death 16 years ago.

Funeral services were held from Immaculate Conception Church, Lansing, Monday morning at nine o'clock with Rev. Henry Scharphoff, resident pastor, offering the Mass of Requiem and saying the final prayers at the graveside. Burial was in Gethsemane and carrying his mortal remains to its final resting place were Lloyd, Verne and Earl Love, CBM Ray and John Sweeney and Roy Murphy.

Among out of town relatives and friends attending the service were the James Clancy family and Verne Love, Janesville, Wis.; the Earl Love family, of East Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Roy Erickson, Chicago; Mrs. R.P. Cilley and baby, La Crosse, Wis.
