Postville Herald, Thursday, 14 July 1921.
Anna Allman Mead was born March 31, 1857, in Clayton county, Iowa, and when but a mere child moved with her parents to Elgin, Iowa, and died at her home northeast of Postville, on the old A. B. Cook farm, about five o'clock Tuesday evening, July 12, 1921, in her sixty-fifth year.
She was married to M. C. Mead at Elgin July 13, 1873, and to this union were born three children, Guy A. Mead of Waterloo, Mrs. Ada Bateman of St. Paul, the other, Mrs. Glennie Fraser, died at Minneapolis in 1913.
The above is in brief the life story of a woman well known to the people of this city and locality, where she has resided for upwards of twenty years past. She was a kindly, well disposed woman, who lived not to herself alone, but was ever ready with a helping hand or comforting word when sorrows and troubles were visited upon neighbors and friends, and in the children who came to gladden her own home she lavished a mother's tender care and love. Since the death of her daughter eight years ago she has cared for her two little girls with a mother's care and reared them as devotedly as though they were her own. And when the roll is called up yonder we firmly believe that this faithful wife, loving mother and faithful friend will receive the reward that awaits those who have done their best.
She is survived by her husband, two children, two sisters- Mrs. ?. F. Gordon of Postville and Mrs. Belle Higley of Missouri; also seven grandchildren and many warm friends.
The funeral is being held this (Thursday) afternoon from the Bethel U.B. church, Rev. Hayes of Castalia officiating. Interment in the Minert cemetery.
