Postville Review, Friday, 5 April 1918

Carl Casten, aged 31 years, was suddenly stricken during the early hours of last Sunday morning with a very acute attack of appendicitis, and when a physician was called his condition was found to be extremely critical and with practically no hope of other than a fatal termination. Carl was carried to Postville Hospital on a stretcher dring the afternoon of that day, where a consultation of physicians decided an operation offered the only possible chance of a recovery, and that but slight, which was accordingly done. But in spite of skillful work and constant care Carl passed away at a little past noon Wednesday.

The funeral will be held from the Lutheran church Saturday afternoon at two o'clock.

Obituary next week.

From the same paper and date:

Private Lawrence Casten arrived here Wednesday noon from Camp Dodge, reaching the bedside of his brother Carl just a few minutes before he crossed over the Great Divide.
