Harry Lamphier

Harry Del Lamphier, 78, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home in Fayette. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waukon. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, also at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waukon. Hanson Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family with arrangements.
Harry was born March 23, 1935 to Joy and Bonnie (Knoebel) Lamphier in Lima. He graduated from Fayette High School in 1953, and then served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955, spending most of his enlistment in Germany. Following his enlistment, he attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, graduating in 1959. Upon completing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, he attended Winona State University in Mankato, MN, where he received his Masters degree in Administration.
November 27, 1959 he married LaVonne Pollow in Sumner. He then served as an elementary school principal in the Dorchester/Waukon area for 35 years. Since his retirement, he enjoyed spending his time at “The Camp” along his beloved Upper Iowa River. He also spent winters in Arizona, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife; his daughters, Michelle Lamphier of Waverly and Jennifer (Dennis) Bockhaus of Nora Springs; a son, Michael of Cedar Rapids; three grandsons, Tony Bockhaus of Cedar Falls, Ben Kwapnioski of Omaha, NE, and E-2 Seaman Michael Kwapnioski of Pensacola, FL; four sisters, Bonnie Kline of Oelwein, Mabel (Frank) Garcia of Oelwein, Carol (Steve) Niles of Fayette, and Becky (Bruce) Ingersoll of Fayette; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Beverly Edwards; his brothers, Bob and Jack; his sisters-in-law, Virginia and Lucy; and his brothers-in-law, Bruce Kline and Bob Edwards.
