Mrs. Anna Legg - Shepherd, was born at Iverness, Scotland, Dec. 31, 1826, and died at her home in Postville, Iowa, Jan. 21, 1913, aged 86 years and 21 days.

She was married in New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Dec. 31, 1847, to John Shepherd. To this union were born six children, four of whom survive her, namely; William and Hugh of this city, Mrs. Ann Gustafson of near Cedar Rapids and J. I. Shepherd of Berkley, Calif.

They came to this country 1n 1868, settling in Postville, where they continuously resided until called by death. The Husband died Aug. 28, 1902.

The passing of Mrs. Shepherd removes from among us one of our oldest settlers, a grand old lady of sturdy Scotch stock, a faithful wife, a noble mother and a staunch friend of humanity. She lived a beautiful but simple life and performed her life's work without murmur or complaint, and when at last her frail body was no longer aide to withstand the storms of life the giver of all good gifts extended to her the Infinite hand and said, "Well done thou good and faithful servant, come unto me and rest."

The funeral was held from the home at two o'clock this afternoon, conducted by Rev. j. F. Childress. Interment in Postville cemetery.
