Frances Naomi Stiles was born at Whitesville, N.Y., Feb. 8, 1847 and died at Castalia, Iowa, Aug. 1, 1909. She came with her parents to Postville, Iowa, in 1855. Was married to John McMartin, Oct 22, 1865. To this union were born Mrs. Marion Burns of Castalia, and Chester S. McMartin of West Union, Iowa. These, with five brothers - Warren, Lon, Noel, Elbert and Arthur; three sisters - Mrs. James Gordon, Mrs. James McEwen and Mrs. Charles Skelton, and five grandchildren survive her.

Mrs. McMartin was for months a great sufferer. Relatives, kind neighbors and friends and the best of medical help did everything possible to stay the dread disease which preyed upon her, but all was of no avail. The hand that created all saw fit to separate her spirit from its tenement of clay.

Her church membership was for years held with the United Brethren in Castalia and from which her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 3, 1909.
