Mrs. Frank Ervin, a member of one of Postville's pioneer families, passed away last Thursday morning following a brief illness. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Lehr H. Newhouse, pastor of the Community church, Saturday afternoon in the Schutte Funeral Home. Interment was in Postville cemetery.

Mrs. Ervin was born as Blanche Stiles, daughter of Elbert and Luceba Stiles, May 18, 1872, and she is of the fourth generation of the Stiles family that called Postville its home.

She was married to Frank Ervin 54 years ago at Prairie du Chien, Wis., and to this union one daughter was born, Ruth, Mrs. O.M. Lee of St. Paul, Minn., who survives her passing. Mr. Ervin passed away five years ago. Mrs. Ervin is also survived by two grandchildren, by a sister, Mrs. May Miller of Decorah, and a brother, Burl L. Stiles of Waterloo.

She was a member of the Postville Community church and of Postville Chapter, No. 238, Order of the Eastern Star, members of the latter order attending the last rites in a body.

Blanche and Frank were married 26 November 1889 at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Frank was a wagon maker in Postville, Iowa. His business was located next to the Ellis Blacksmith Shop (on the west side of the shop). Originally the Blacksmith Shop had been owned by Thomas Shortreed. Frank's sister, Lora Ervin, was the wife to Thomas Shortreed. Frank and Lora were the children of Enos Ervin and his first wife Roxanna Ellis.

Frank Ervin was born 12 April 1861 in Postville, Iowa and he died 4 August 1938 in Postville, Iowa.
