Death of Lifelong Resident
Mrs. Hannah Haas passed away suddenly last Thursday morning at her home near Lycurgus in Makee township. She had been suffering all winter from heart trouble and death was due to heart failure.
The deceased’s maiden name was Hannah Loretta Henry, daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Charles Henry, and she was born in French Creek township June 21, 1874. She received her education in the rural school and at St. Mary’s church, Lycurgus, was married to Charles H. Haas Mary 19, 1896. Her husband preceded her in death Dec. 13, 1927.
She is survived by the following: Mrs. Elsie Peterson, Berlin, N.D.; Mrs. Hazel Metzdorf, New Albin; Leo J. Haas, Waukon; Irene Haas, Independence; Marie Haas, Waukon. She is also survived by the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. Gus Gruber, Waukon;; Mrs. Moritz Gruber, Lansing; Andrew, John and Joe Henry, Waukon.
The funeral took place Monday forenoon with requiem mass at St. Mar’s church, Lycurgus, celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Father McNamara, and burial in St. Mary’s cemetery. The following served as pallbearers: Peter Plein, Patrick McCauley, James Lycet, Thomas Ford, Charles Deeney, James Manning.
