Patrick Horgan, the subject of this sketch, was born in county Cork, Ireland, in 1832. He came to the United States in 1846 and to Iowa in 1860, and died at the home of his son John in Postville on Friday morning, March 5, 1915, in his eighty-third year. He was married to Miss May Garvey in 1870 at Clermont, Iowa, who died Oct. 10, 1908. there were five children born to this union - Mrs. John Murphy of Reynolds, N.D.; Jimmie, who died in 1902; John of this city; Willie, who died in 1894; and Mayme of Reynolds, N.D.

Mr. Horgan had been a resident of Postville for many years, and until his advanced years caused him to cease, he labored at whatever honorable work his willing hands might find to do. He was a devoted husband and kind father and good citizen, who had a pleasant word of greeting for all. For some years past he had been in failing health and made his home with his son John, where all that tender and thoughtful ministrations could do to smooth his pathway toward the tomb were his until the journeys end, when he fell peacefully asleep, firm in the faith of a joyful awakening in that far away home of the soul.

He was a member of the Catholic church throughout a long and useful life.

The sympathy of a large circle of friends is with the children and relatives who mourn his loss.

The funeral was held from the Catholic church in this city Monday morning at 9:30, Rev. J. J. Clune officiating. Interment in the Catholic cemetery at Clermont.
