Shirley M. Ohloff, 81, of Castalia, Iowa died Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa.
Shirley was born on February 7, 1932 to Otto and Irma (Robey) Olson in Waukon, Iowa. She was baptized on March 7, 1932 at St. John Lutheran Church in Waukon and confirmed on December 1, 1946 at Old East Paint Creek Church in Waterville. Shirley graduated from Waukon High School in 1950. After graduation, she sold theater tickets at the Waukon Theater.
Shirley was united in marriage with William Ohloff on August 4, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Six children were born to this union. Bill and she farmed while raising their family.
Shirley was a member of a coffee club in Castalia, Farm Bureau Women, and Bloomfield Historical Society doing apron shows all over Northeast Iowa. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and WELCA. Shirley enjoyed gardening, flowers, puzzles, crosswords, playing piano/organ, feeding and watching birds and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her husband, William of 62 years; her 5 children, Dean (Laurel) Ohloff of Postville, Stephen (Wendy) Ohloff of Dubuque, Daniel Ohloff of Postville, Marlyn (Debra) Ohloff of Cresco and Glen (Kathryn) Ohloff of Moneek Road; a daughter-in-law, Carmela (John) Hubler of Round Rock, Texas; fourteen grandchildren, Aaron (Stephanie) Ohloff, Seth Ohloff, Arica Ohloff, Blake (Stephanie) Ohloff, Matthew Ohloff, Patience (Robert) Kober, Sara (Kevin) Palas, Candice (Matt) Stier, Collin Ohloff, Craig Ohloff, Jacob Ohloff, Garret Ohloff, Shane (Heather) Fox and Dustin Fox; thirteen great-grandchildren, Paige, Dalton, Hannah, Summer, Haley, Brittany, Bobby, William, Ryker, Jackson, Claire, Reed, and Zoe; her sister, Carol Heller of Readlyn; brother-in-law, James (Mary) Koevenig of Oviedo, Florida; three nieces; a nephew and several great nieces and great nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Thomas, in December 1988; her parents, a sister-in-law, Kathleen Koevenig and a brother-in-law, Martin Heller.
Visitation will be Friday, April 26, 2013 from 3-7 p.m. at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Saturday.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Steve Brackett as the officiant.
Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Postville, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
