Harlan Steiber, Lansing, Iowa, February 28, 2013

Harlan Herbert Steiber, 80, Lansing, Iowa died February 28, 2013 at Gundersen Medical Health Center, La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was born on September 17, 1932 to Raymond and Lillian (Wendel) Steiber in Lafayette Township, Allamakee County, Lansing, Iowa. He received his education at the Russell School in Lafayette Township, Allamakee County.

Harlan was united in marriage with Phyllis Gallmeyer on December 6, 1980 at the United Methodist Church, Lansing, Iowa. Harlan was a dairy farmer his entire life, retiring in 1999 and moving into Lansing. He loved nature, gardening, birds, polka music, his “ember days” weather forecasting, walking up Mt. Hosmer and often the backside and traveling to all but four states.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Phyllis of thirty-two years; his daughter, Debra (Larry) Knutson of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; two grandsons, Eric (Lisa) Knutson and their son, Dylan of Ferryville, Wisconsin and Joshua (Betsy) Knutson and their son, Kaden of Genoa, Wisconsin; his three sisters, Phyllis (Duane) VanKleek of Milford, Iowa, Hazel (Harold) Copenhaver of Tucson, Arizona and Mildred (John) Mandernach of Adel, Iowa; two exchange students, Luis Felipe (Adriana) Reyes and their daughter, Sofia of Fremont, California and Britta (Michael) Winkler and their son, Niklas of Germany and many nieces and nephews.

Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Wilfred (Wilma) Wendel and his brother, Milton in infancy.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Lansing, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Lansing, Iowa with Rev. Kevin Smith as the officiant.

Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Lansing, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
