Darla Niemann, Waukon, Iowa, February 17, 2013

Darla Rae Niemann, 49, Waukon, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 from cancer, at her sister’s home in Mount Vernon, Iowa. She was a beloved sister and aunt. She was born on September 17, 1963 to Darwin and Verla (Brandenburg) Niemann in Sumner, Iowa. Darla was baptized at Ritchfield Lutheran Church in rural Fredericksburg, Iowa and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. She graduated from Postville High School in 1983.

Darla worked at Northern Engraving in Waukon, Iowa for twenty years until they closed. She then moved to Mt. Vernon, Iowa and worked at various jobs, ending with Casey’s in Solon, Iowa. She enjoyed day trips to small town festivals, flea markets and shopping with her best friend Lorna Burroughs of Waukon, Iowa. Darla loved her nephews and niece more than anything.

Darla is survived by her sister, Susan (John) Kostman of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; her brother, Dennis (Karla) Niemann of Yelm, Washington; two nephews, Michael Niemann of Starksville, Mississippi and Kenny Kostman of Ft. Bliss, Texas; her niece, Michele Nieman of Portland, Oregon and her step-mom, Pat Niemann of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be from 8-10 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Steve Brackett as the officiant.

Burial will follow in the Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.

Schutte – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa is helping the family with the arrangements.
